Abstract: There has been an inherent compromise between the spatial resolution and penetrationdepth in ultrasound imaging. Optical super-resolution, through e.g. photo-activateclocalization microscopy (PALM), has overcome the diffraction limit of spatial resolution.although its penetration is limited to in vitro applications. Super-resolution ultrasoundSRUS), through localizing spatially isolated individual microbubbles, also known asultrasound localisation microscopy,is shown to be able to break the wave diffraction limitand generate microscopic resolution at centi-meter depth, offering great promises for awide range of clinical applications. In the talk I would introduce the basics of SRUS, andour efforts to address some of the current challenges in SRUS.

Bio: Mengxing Tang is a professor in Biomedical lmaging at Imperial College London. Hismain research interest is in biomedical ultrasound imaging. He set up and is currently thedirector of the Ultrasound Laboratory for Imaging and Sensing (ULIS) at Imperial CollegeHis group has been one of the first to demonstrate ultrasound super-resolution imagingthrough localising and tracking microbubbles, and high frame rate contrast ultrasound forechocardiography and arterial flow quantification. He has successfully graduated over 20PhD students and authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal papers. He has recently led thefirst international challenge in super resolution ultrasound. He is an Associate Editor ofIEEE T UFFC.and a member of the IEEE IUS TPC
