Media Research Center

The Media Research Centre is established in October 2010 including three key members, i.e., School of Information Science and Technology, School of Computer Science and School of Journalism. In addition, the Jiefang Daily, Shanghai Wireless Center, Shanghai Broadband Center, Shanghai Telecom and ZTE have been invited to join as the member of the Advisory Committee.
 
The Media Research Center consists of the following five parts.
1. Innovation Base. Innovation base is aim at the frontier topics research, technological innovation, new technology research and demonstration of the varies digital media technology. Talents of communications, networking, news and mediawill achieve cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary development on this base. The techniques and models explored by the small range of platform in the university campus can be gradually extended to social community centers, and establish larger city media center.
 
2. Media Engineering Center. It consists of a media campus data center and a media application platform. The data center used to store, manage core data of the system. The users data and other operating data can be shared and accessible through application systems. Media applications platform provides users with " media services" in the form of a website. At the beginning, the users would merely beteachers and students in the campus. When technology is mature, it can be open to society.

3. Media testing bed. It is used to test the functions and the performances of the media application platform, include positioning, information dissemination ,data mining and information security.

4. Media Demonstration Center. It is an interactive exhibition site to interact with teachers and students, demo of the new media terminal, and realize real-time data acquisition, processing and publishing.

5. Discipline of Digital Media and Communications. Students of the discipline are cultured to be an innovative talent of media communication based on the information network and its regular processing, analysis, research and development.

The Media Center’s main research directions include multiple heterogeneous data fusion technology, new-media information communication technology, new media terminal devices and equipments, intelligent new-media security monitoring and integrated new-media applications services demonstration platform. Media Research Center intends to set media core technology research, innovative technology research and development, application systems, data integration analysis, technical testing and validation, showcasing achievements, professional personnel training and other functions and responsibilities in one. The center will focus on building an innovation and research base with high level and responsible for the testing and demonstration of the media application platform functions.
