Shanghai ultra-precision optical manufacturing engineering center

Sponsored by Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, “Shanghai ultra-precision optical manufacturing engineering center (SUPOE)", with support of the School of Information Science and Engineering, Fudan university, established on December 1st 2011.

The mission of SUPOE is to develop a world advanced ultra-precision optical design, manufacturing, measurement and application engineering center to meet the growing demands for multi-scale ultra-precision optics, to conduct cutting edge research in the area of ultra precision optical manufacturing with international repute and recognition, to cultivate numbers of high-quality R&D personnel in Optoelectronic field, to  supply comprehensive theory & technical support, upgrade industry structure, promotion for the implementation of major special projects and national defenses technology in China. This mission is realized through perseverance of excellence in advanced optical manufacturing, pursuit of innovation in precision measurement and enhancement of functionalities in optical engineering.

SUPOE is equipped with advanced ultra-precision machining and measurement facilities, implements innovation model combining industry, university and institute. Partnership led by Fudan university with support of  Shanghai Science and Technology Committee and  the related leading enterprise of optics and photonics in Shanghai, focusing on facilitating the transfer of optical precision engineering knowledge and skill from academic and our SUPOE into China optics and optical engineering companies,  combining the high requirement of global “sustainable development strategy” to the green & healthy optical ultra-precision manufacturing technology and the significant need of Chinese economic construction and social development to the processing and manufacturing of precise optical devices, and establishing highly efficient technical innovation system, SUPOE  will focus on:
 1.  Advanced optical manufacturing technology.
 2.  Precision measurement and surface characterization technology
 3.  Laser engineering.
 4.  Nano-imprint technology.
 5.  The integration of complex optical system and IR technologies.
 6.  Mechanism analysis and process simulation.

Through 3 to 5 years of development, an ultra-precision optical manufacturing center with the advanced world levels will be established. SUPOE can play as the link through facilities, equipments, plus research and development, demonstration of advanced technology, industry upgrade, talent introduction and project construction.

In SUPOE, a board of trustees and working committee is founded. Numerous well-known experts at home and abroad are engaged to form an advisory committee and technical committee. Through the establishment of corresponding regulation and research platform, the steady development of every work in SUPOE can be effectively guaranteed to play a solid foundation for the achievement of the intended target of SUPOE. Until now, SUPOE have been established six research-and-development groups and one office. They are R&D group of optical ultra-precision manufacturing technology, R&D group of optical ultra-precision inspection and surface evaluation technology, R&D group of infrared technology, R&D group of mechanism analysis and process simulation technology, R&D group of ultra-precision optical system design technology, group of industry innovation for ultra-precision manufacturing technology and management office.

4、Research content and key personnel in each research group
(1) Research-and-development group of optical ultra-precision manufacturing technology
Person in charge: CHEN Liangyao
Research content: acquiring many key breakthroughs with independent intellectual property in the field of basic theory and key technology of the cutting mechanism of brittle materials, stress release and transfer, complex standard measurement, deterministic manufacturing and the real time optimization of process chain. Achieving the cross over of modern optical manufacturing from “imaging function with simple and regular topography” to “composite function with global and complex structure”; building the basic theory, process system and key technology platform of the complex functional structure manufacturing of brittle material; cultivating numerous top talents with innovative ideas to engage in cutting-edge research in this field, breaking through the foreign technology embargo, greatly improving the level of our country in optical extreme manufacturing field.

(2) Research-and-development group of optical measurement and surface evaluation technology
Person in charge: JIANG Xiangqian
Research content: researching the surface morphology optical measurement technology of the optical element with complex free-form surface and structure surface; setting up the mathematical theoretical basis of the complex curved surface, researching the evaluation algorithm system of the complex curved surface and its standardization, and developing the surface morphology optical measurement technology for the industry application; researching the basic mathematical operations and principle of evaluation system for free-form surface (with non-rotational symmetric and conversion symmetrical non-Euclidian geometry); researching the basic mathematical operations and principle of evaluation system for deterministic structure surface; researching the surface analysis based on micro space geometry for surface textures and building corresponding mathematical basis and evaluation system; researching various measurement principles and feasible techniques and building steady and strict on-line measurement and analysis tool for complex free-form surface and deterministic structure surface with coverage from 1 to 2 meters and precision as 1/10; researching rapid micro detection technology with the accuracy of nanometer for the rapid, on-line and  in situ measurement of free-form surface and deterministic structure surface.

(3) Research-and-development group of optical mechanism and process simulation technology

Research content: the research on the simulation of each kind of ultra-precision manufacturing technology, the analysis and simulation of the tool paths, the surface force analysis of different materials, the low of materials transfer, the processing and control technique of materials, the simulation of manufacturing process

(4) Research-and-development group of ultra-precision optical system design technology

Research content: Main research on aspheric and freeform surface image and illumination optical design and system design.

Research content: Main research on the principle of infrared detection and image, including its image processing, system integration and application.
