Visit by University of Turku, Finland

A cooperation agreement on Joint Master's and Doctoral Programmes in the area of Information and Communication Technology was signed by Fudan University and the University of Turku (UTU), Finland during the Rector of UTU Professor Kalervo Väänänen's visit to Fudan on November 9th. The 11-member Turku delegation included the Vice Rector Professor Kalle-Antti Suominen, and several Deans and Department Directors. Professor Li-Rong Zheng, Dean of SIST, Professor Lizhi Zhou, Secretary of the Party committee, Professor Ran Liu, Dean for Internationalization, Professor Yiwei Shi, Dean for Graduate Education attended the signing ceremony.

 

On November 12, one of the delegation members, Professor Mikko-Jussi Laakso from the School of Information Technology, University of Turku was invited by SIST to give a lecture on the application of the collaborative education tool ViLLE, in which Professor Laakso provided a lively demonstration of the real-time interactive teaching system of the University of Turku. Members of the school's Education Steering Committee attended the lecture.

 

The University of Turku (Finnish Turun yliopisto, Swedish Åbo universitet), located in Turku in southwestern Finland, is the second largest university in the country as measured by student enrollment, after University of Helsinki. It was established in 1920 and also has faculties at Rauma, Pori and Salo. The university is a member of the Coimbra Group*.

 

*The Coimbra Group (CG) is a network of 40 European universities, some among the oldest and most prestigious in Europe. It was founded in 1985 and formally constituted by charter in 1987.
