US-China Collaboration Symposium & 2013 Yangpu National Innovative Urban Areas Development Conference were held in Fudan University

On the morning of Oct. 18th, the US-China Collaboration Symposium & 2013 Yangpu National Innovative Urban Areas Development Conference were held ceremoniously in Fudan University (FDU), which were co-hosted by Yangpu People’s Government, Fudan University and Bay Area Council and jointly undertaken by Leading Group Office of Yangpu National Innovative UrbanAreas Construction Pilot, Science And Technology Committee of Yangpu Area, School of Information Science and Technology (SIST) of Fudan University and Shanghai Representative Office of Bay Area Council. Zhi-Wen Zhu, Party Secretary of FDU, Yin Chen, Secretary of CPC Commission of Yangpu District, Matt Rodriquez, Secretary of California Environmental Protection Agency, Ming-Bo Chen,Vice Director of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Committee and Jian Liu, Vice Director of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information gave opening speeches respectively on the opening ceremony of the Forum. This conference has saw the attendance of more than 300 people including Xiao-Man Chen, Vice-president of FDU and other famous experts, scholars and representatives from enterprises and universities both home and abroad.

 

 

Around the theme - “Smart City - To light the city life with intelligence”, latest international developments and innovative trends of smart city construction were shared aiming at accelerating national innovative urban areas development with intellectual support. The conference was divided into two parts, respective hosted by Qian-Yu Wu, Vice Mayor of Yangpu Government and Jim Wunderma,President and CEO of Bay Area Council.

 

 

Mr. Zhu saidin the opening speech that this forum was themed by smart city construction. Yangpu have undertaken various tasks for the development of smart community, smart power grid and industry environment in Shanghai. The progress of Fudan University is in accordance with that of Yangpu District. In recent years, in response to government policies, the two sides have developed close collaboration and got fruitful achievements on scientific researches and the construction of science parks. Building smart city with no doubt is a great opportunity for the development of not only Yangpu District but Fudan University as well. In future Fudan University will take the advantages of science, knowledge and talents to promoting growing-up Yangpu smart city and make contributions to the progress of both national and Shanghai smart city construction and innovative information industry. Later, Hai-Tang, Member of Standing Committee of Yangpu District CPC and Vice Mayor of Yangpu Government, Li-RongZheng, Dean of SIST of FDU and Jiang-Yan Wang, CEO of American Energy Foundation addressed keynote speeches.

Mr. Zheng put forward that what smart cities needed was to open locks with one keyin his speech named “Smart Cities Enabled by Green ICT”. A multilateral and win-win collaborative platform is necessary In the process of the construction of smart cities. It can be summarized with four letters: C, D, I and O, which mean conception, design, implementation and operation separately.

 

 

John Rindlaub, President of Wells Fargo (Asia Pacific), Hans Chia, Marketing Director of GE Energy etc. presented as topic seminar guests and gave speeches on the conference theme.

 

Jean Quan, Mayor of the city of Oakland, Nancy Shepherd, Vice Mayor of the city of Palo Alto, Alton Chow, Shanghai Studio Chair of Woods Bagot and Michael Tunkey, Principal of CannoDesian carried out a small-size seminar entitled as Design and Overall Plan of Smart City.

 

In the closing ceremony hosted by Jim Wunderman, President and CEO of Bay Area Council, Edwin M. Lee, Mayor of the city of San Francisco, delivered a closing address.

 

This conference has provided a good communication platform for guests from home and abroad. The guests’ professional and insightful opinions have inspired innovative ideas and thoughts from all the participants, which will make a big difference. Fudan University will further take her own advantages and make greater contributions to constructing national innovative urban areas in Yangpu District.
