Abstract
Roll to roll UV precision embossing replication is a continuous manufacturing method which is able to produce large volume high quality nano and micro surface structure at relatively low cost. With more and more applications being exploited by employing nano and micro surface structure, roll to roll UV embossing has demonstrated to be a suitable and reliable manufacture method to fabricate them. The process is able to fabricate the structure with depths from as small as few nanometers to several hundred microns.

Microsharp Innovation is a highly innovative dynamic company. Its activities are on developing micro and nano structures in applications of display, lighting, medical, solar, defence and security industries. Our technology and products are based on micro optics and optical films produced by roll-to roll and batch UV curing embossing process.  Our production expertise and capability enable us to provide volume film production and customer film trials.

Microsharp Innovation’s high precision continuous production process uses UV curing of specially formulated polymer resins on a variety of plastic substrates. Precision micro and nano structured moulds are used to emboss a wide variety of optical functional surfaces from nanostructures, through diffractive to refractive and reflective microstructures. Microsharp Innovation has expertise in all stages of the production process from design of optical structures and systems, formulation of specific UV curable resins, through precision tooling to film production and testing.

Biography

Dr. Zhi Xin Li, obtained D. Phil in Physical Chemistry from Oxford University in 1996 and was post-doc researcher assistant at same group from 1995 to 1999. His work was to investigate the interfacial structure and interaction of polymers, surfactants and proteins at the air/liquid and liquid/solid interface using neutron and X-ray scattering. In 1999, he joined Ciba Speciality Chemicals’ New Technology Group as senior scientist working on UV polymerization, adhesion technology for difficult surface and novel polymers synthesis. In 2002, he joined Microsharp Corporation Limited as Senior Group Leader, later Application Engineering Manager, and VP in responsible of Micro Optics and Optical Films business. Earlier 2013, he founded Microsharp Innovation Ltd. Its activities are on developing micro and nano structures in applications of display, lighting, medical, solar, defence and security industries.Dr. Li is the author of over forty publications and holds five patents. He is a visiting scientist at Technology Facility Council’s (STFC) Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) in United Kingdom.
